Sunday, February 18 at 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Historic Oakland Foundation members are invited to February’s Members Only Event at Oakland Cemetery!
Join us on Sunday, February 18 for a special tour during African American History month and National Children’s Dental Health Month. We’ll visit with and honor Dr. Roderick Badger, Atlanta’s first African American dentist.
Dr. Badger was born on his father’s plantation in DeKalb County. Roderick’s father, a prominent dentist, taught his 16-year-old son the trade and in 1856, Roderick set out on his own for Atlanta. Working seven days a week to pay for his equipment, Dr. Badger soon established a practice popular with both black and white patients.
This tour will give attendees a look at the current restoration work happening in Oakland’s African American Grounds. After the tour an informal reception will be held in the Bell Tower’s Bobby Jones Room, complete with an hors d’oeuvres buffet.
This event is only for pre-registered Historic Oakland Foundation members and is limited to 40 persons.
Cost per member: $20
