Sunday, September 3 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Historic Oakland Foundation Members are invited to gather at Oakland Cemetery on Sunday, September 3, the day before Georgia Tech’s 2017 opening football game. Before the Yellow Jackets play Tennessee, we’ll honor Tech’s early history found at Oakland Cemetery with a new, never-before-seen guided walking tour led by Tech alumnus and HOF volunteer Steve Brooks.
Georgia Tech opened as the Georgia School of Technology in 1888. During the tour, attendees will hear stories of the institute’s early history and visit with Oakland residents whose involvement was integral to Tech’s history: names like Peters, Inman, and Heisman. After the tour, stay for a tailgate and meal at Oakland Cemetery.
The first tour begins at 4 p.m., followed by a tailgate at the Bell Tower at 5 p.m. Following the tailgate, a second tour will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each tour is capped at 40 attendees, and tickets are available to Historic Oakland Foundation Members Only.
