Supporting the Effort

Financial Support

Financial support is critical to our efforts. Please consider making a gift to us. Your gift is tax deductible, and you may choose to give specifically to the gardens, our restoration work, or the general operations of the Foundation. Every gift means we can continue to sustain this beautiful park for generations to come.

Plant and In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations of all types are welcome, however they are critical in our efforts to expand our collection of period plants. Please keep us in mind if you are planning the renovation of your garden. That old, overgrown spirea that needs to go might be an older variety perfect for a spot here at Oakland, and a few divisions from your old iris might give us a start of a form we don’t have. We also do plant rescues when appropriate. This needs to be planned in advance but can be a great way to rescue plants from property slated for renovation. Please contact Sara Henderson at to discuss the possibilities.

Volunteers are always welcome and there are many options for those who’d like to help in the gardens. Three-hour workdays are planned throughout the year and all willing hands are welcome – with or without prior experience. This can be a wonderful way to make new friends while increasing your gardening knowledge. Volunteers are broken into small teams led by an experienced leader who will teach you the needed skills. Individual projects are also possible for those with more experience. Contact for details of upcoming events.

Each year we host a number of workdays for groups of all types and would be happy to talk with you about the possibility of working with your group. Please contact to discuss the possibilities.
