And why not visit a cemetery on Halloween? Historic Oakland Cemetery receives many visitors each day, but only at Halloween do our gates stay open after dark. For three special evenings this fall, you can witness the magnificent final resting place of Atlanta’s sons and daughters during our special Capturing the Spirit of Oakland 2008 Halloween Tours.
Join us this year and hear first-hand about our city's past, narrated by a host of Oakland's "residents" including the Atlanta golfing legend himself, Bobby Jones. You'll also see gorgeous mausoleums and hear tales "told" by some of Atlanta's early African American, Jewish and Civil War leaders.
Don't forget your flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes for this one-of-a-kind, guided walking tour ... and, of course, feel free to wear a costume! After all, it is Halloween.
Tours start a 6:00 p.m. each night at the Bell Tower and last approximately one hour. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and you must have your ticket to enter the cemetery the night of your tour. To ensure we can accommodate all ticket holders, tours will be sold in timed increments, and a limited number of tickets are available. Order early!
Cost: $15 Adults, $5 Children 12 and Under
Refreshments: Before and after your tour, enjoy refreshments for sale from Stone Soup Kitchen, and browse Oakland's Museum Shop for unique gifts.
Parking: Limited free parking is available near the main entrance and on neighboring streets. Carpooling or taking MARTA to the King Memorial Station is highly recommended. Parking is also available at Underground Atlanta for $3 per vehicle, plus $1 per person round trip for a seat on the Atlanta Trolley Tour Line Shuttle to and fromOakland's main gate. Please allow ample travel time if taking the shuttle.
Rain Date Policy: There is no rain date, however, in the event of a cancellation due to inclement weather, a free pass for an Oakland guided walking tour will be mailed within one month to ticket holders.
