The Historic Oakland Foundation Museum Store offers a very unique Christmas Selection this year.
Christmas Season is just around the corner and Oakland’s Museum Shop Team wants to start with a Special Christmas Sale. Get it for yourself or as a gift either way you will enjoy these Christmas delicacies.
We have an assortment of uniquely printed and shaped Christmas chests and containers made off tin plate, attractively embossed, one is a music box and even a Merry-Go-Round playing a lovely melody accompanied by lighting. All boxes include a tasty variety of German Christmas treats.
Elisen-Gingerbread are the finest, prepared with almonds and hazelnuts (no flour), which makes it so full of flavor; around since Medieval times. Elisen-Gingerbread come squared or round on wafers made in the same fashion as communion wafers. I am certain Mr. Elsas had Elisen-Gingerbread when he was a child.
Gingerbread is soft, about four inches in diameter, if rectangular they are even larger. Ginger-bread ranges in taste from spicy to sweet. Ingredients typically are almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, ginger, cardamom, allspice, nuts, cloves, coriander and candied fruit. Gingerbread are often covered with dark chocolate and sometimes glazed, vernacular ‘White Gingerbread.’
Almond Gingerbread are normally decorated with almond halves, placed to look like a star in the middle of the Gingerbread, with almonds and similar ingredients as regular Gingerbread. Butter and speculatius biscuits, Christstollen, vanilla crescents, and nut shortbreads are also popular Christmas delicacies, whose main ingredients are nuts, flour, sugar, and spices.

All prices are final and include tax. The items will be ready about 30 days after processing your order. We will inform you when items are ready for pick up at the Museum Store.
