2nd Saturdays

Historic Oakland Foundation cultivates resources for the preservation, restoration, beautification, and promotion of Historic Oakland Cemetery (1850), a municipal burial ground owned and operated by the Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. Volunteers assist with general landscaping duties that vary seasonally, with a focus on gardening with historic and native plants in a landscape shaped by Victorian traditions and sensibilities. Emphasis is placed on garden areas. 25-50 volunteers are needed. Minimum age is 14; ages 14 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Date/Time: Every 2nd Saturday of the month, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (November- March) or 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon (April-October).

Individuals, groups or Hands on Atlanta volunteers are welcome! Volunteers work in small groups led by experienced landscape professionals who will share their know-how and experience. Don't forget your gardening gloves!

In case of extreme weather conditions, cancellation will be announced by an outgoing message at (404) 688-2107 ext. 13.

Parking is outside the cemetery's main entrance, in a lot located at the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
