6 Reasons to Do Your Shopping at Oakland Cemetery’s Fall Plant Sale

Our annual Fall Plant Sale is fast approaching and we are so excited to share the wonderful selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, edibles and houseplants with you this year! The sale will take place Saturday, September 27th from 9 AM to 2 PM, with a special Member-exclusive preview on Friday, September 26th from 2 PM to 8 PM.

This year we anticipate carrying over 300 species of plants with a heavy focus on Georgia natives and hard to find historic plants, all sourced from family-owned, southern nurseries. We will have small trees and shrubs selected for compact urban gardens, pollinator-magnet perennials, all your favorite fall veggies and herbs, and low-maintenance houseplants to brighten your home.

Garden Volunteers get first dibs on the plants as they arrive. If you have ever considered volunteering with the Gardens at Oakland Cemetery, this is a fantastic opportunity to see if it’s a good fit for you. All levels of garden experience are welcome! You can find out more information and sign up here.

1. With more than 2,500 plants representing over 300 species, you’ll have no shortage of options to choose from.

2. Every plant comes from small to midsize local nurseries, carefully selected for both quality and their connection to native habitats.

3. Oakland’s Gardens Guild—made up of full-time horticulturalists and dedicated volunteers—will be on hand to answer your questions and guide you through caring for your new plants.

4. Since reservations are required, the event won’t feel overcrowded, giving you the chance to browse in a calm environment, surrounded by fellow plant-lovers.

5. You’ll find perennials, houseplants, annuals, trees, shrubs, edibles, and more! So whether you’re looking for a new potted plant for your patio or planning to grow your own vegetables, there will be something for you.

6. Our annual plant sales are the number one fundraisers for the Gardens here at Oakland Cemetery. Every dollar raised goes right back into supporting Oakland’s 48 acres of beautiful gardens! (That’s a lot of plants, supplies, and mulch to buy!)

We are incredibly grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you at the Fall Plant Sale!
